The Decline (Netflix)

decline-netflix-review.jpg

A fatal accident at a remote survivalist training camp sends participants into a panic - and sets the stage for a chilling showdown. Sounds good don’t it. Or does it. Well It starts off like a bunch of regular anarchist learning to survive out in the wilderness until some real f’ed up stuff happens and the main protagonist freakin dies. So how does this end? Its in French so the intensity of watching this closer is recommended. A Canadian movie as well

Black Movies streaming during the Corona Pandemic

Today being stuck in the house, Alicia and I find the best African American (or Black, your preference) movies worth watching during your “Shelter in place” time. And even if you have to work and have a little time. These are some quality movies you can check out. In no specific order: also the Banker is on Apple TV

The Banker

Self Made - the Madam C.J Walker story

Uncorked

Shadow Netflix (Chinese)

We sit down and binged watched a few Asian films after seeing the movie Parasite and this Chinese epic piece showed up on my radar for suggestions on Netflix.  A secret plot with an ongoing war between two kingdoms comes to a head when one empire decide to use deception to gain power of the other with a hidden secret within their own camp.

Close (Netflix)

Being a long time fan of Noomi Rapace from the “Girl with the dragon Tattoo” series (Millennial series) This movie about her being a female body guard was pretty interesting to me. How this bodyguard had to take care of an heiress that has just inherited control over her fathers million dollar business. British movie but something on my list

CAM (Netflix)

This was an odd movie from Netflix that kept showing up in my feed. Basically a Cam girl (actresses that gets money from porn cam’s) that some how gets her identity stolen. Skip the profession she is in. Check out the interesting risk this women will have to go through to get her identity back. Won awards as well. Based on the life of the writer who was a Cam girl.

The Night Comes For Us (Indonesia)

Now this fast pace action super drama is somethingI didn’t expect even though the reviews said to be prepared. A triad soldier decides to go against the wishes of the clan based on the killing of a little girl. Then he becomes the target. But he is not so easily to kill. Over the top some times and very gory. But Very entertaining.

Ito, a gangland enforcer, is caught amidst a treacherous and violent insurrection within his Triad crime family.

Roma (Netflix)

If you followed my reviews, you know I love the work of Alfonso Cuaron.  So this B&W period piece made in Mexico was released with critical acclaim.  I wanted to take my time and watch it when I really had the mental time.  What a very emotional and moving piece he has created for this Oscar nominated film about a domestic worker going through life in the 70's surrounded by class divisions as well as political uprising in Mexico.

Bird Box (Netflix)

As a recommendation for Alicia and I to see, we made a decision to check this out over the holidays. Compared to the box office hit “A quiet Place”. This was supposed to give you the same feel and tension of that movie. The difference with this movie is the creatures in Bird Box make you kill yourself if you see them as oppose to creatures hunting you down if you make a sound. The main highlight of this movie is Sandra Bullock performance and John Malkovich which plays his crazy self as usual.

When a mysterious force decimates the population, only one thing is certain -- if you see it, you die. The survivors must now avoid coming face to face with an entity that takes the form of their worst fears.

Bird Box is a 2014 post-apocalyptic novel and the debut work of Josh Malerman, The book follows a woman who must find a way to guide herself and her children to safety despite the potential threat from an unseen adversary. The story is partially told via flashbacks and takes place during three different time periods
