Dark Matter (SyFy) Season 3

Alicia and get around to review Dark Matter after watching the first two seasons.  The series are on us and we were excited to see the 3rd season come out.  But highly disappointed to know it was the last season.

When crew members working on a derelict spaceship awaken from stasis, they have no memory of who they are or how they got onto the vessel. The only clues to their identities are weaponry and a destination. They must band together to fight off the threats they face on a voyage filled with vengeance, betrayal and secrets.  The sci-fi series is based on the graphic novel of the same name.

I, Tonya

Alicia and I was surprised by the attention this movie was getting and went to see this indie mockumentary about the Life of Tonya Harding.  We find a you girl in the middle of a class struggle, an abusive family  environment, and a failed marriage that made Tonya who she was at that time. Very interesting take on the situation.

I, Tonya is a 2017 American biographical black comedy film directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Steven Rogers. The film follows the life and career of figure skater Tonya Harding, with particular focus on her connection to the 1994 attack on Nancy Kerrigan, Harding's rival and Olympic teammate; it features interviews with the characters in mockumentary-style set in the modern day, as well as fourth wall breaking

She's gotta have it (2017) Netflix

Growing up New York's thus making us Spike Lee fans.  We were interested at seeing Spike's remake of his own iconic "She's gotta Have it".  We've seen a couple of Spike's last few movies so you can understand why we came to this Netflix series with questionable expectations.

Iconic filmmaker Spike Lee revisits his first feature film with this Netflix original series of the same name. Brooklyn-based artist Nola Darling struggles to stay true to herself and her dreams while dividing her time between her friends, her job and her lovers -- all three of them. That trio includes married businessman and father Jamie Overstreet, photographer and self-described "biracial Adonis" Greer Childs and chatty Michael Jordan fan Mars Blackmon. In addition to creating the series, Lee directs all the episodes and serves as an executive producer alongside wife Tonya Lewis Lee

3 billboards outside ebbing, Missouri

After months have passed without a culprit in her daughter's murder case, Mildred Hayes makes a bold move, painting three signs leading into her town with a controversial message directed at William Willoughby, the town's revered chief of police. When his second-in-command, Officer Dixon -- an immature mother's boy with a penchant for violence -- gets involved, the battle is only exacerbated.

insecure season 2 (HBO)

Alicia and I return with our review of the critically acclaimed series insecure by Issa Rae.  We took a minute to get to look at this amazing series because of the many new and interesting shows coming out this year but we really missed another great season Issa Rae has created.  Check out our thoughts of this outstanding AfricanAmerican HBO series.

The insecure comedy series looks at the friendship of two black women in a unique, authentic way. It features the music of both indie and established artists of color, and touches on a variety of social and racial issues that relate to the contemporary black experience.

The Shape of Water

Elisa is a mute, isolated woman who works as a cleaning lady in a hidden, high-security government laboratory in 1962 Baltimore. Her life changes forever when she discovers the lab's classified secret -- a mysterious, scaled creature from South America that lives in a water tank. As Elisa develops a unique bond with her new friend, she soon learns that its fate and very survival lies in the hands of a hostile government agent and a marine biologist

Master of None Season II (Netflix)

We missed the review for the first season of Master of none by one of our favorite character comedians Aziz Ansari.  He returns after being broken hearted by his last white girlfriend and escapes to Italy to get away.  But returns back to New york with some uniquely created episodes.

Comic Aziz Ansari and writer Alan Yang are the creators of this Netflix-original comedy, which is loosely based on Ansari's real-life experiences. Ansari plays the role of Dev, a New York-based actor who is struggling to identify what he really wants, both personally and professionally. The series reveals glimpses of Dev's younger years, and explores current aspects of his life, including modern etiquette (regarding texting and social media), and being young and single in the city. Other important people in Dev's life are featured, including Dev's dad, played by Ansari's actual father

End of year best and worst TV shows 2017

best-tv-shows.jpg

Alicia and I sit down and go through or best and worst TV shows of the year. We had some amazing TV series that the streaming services created and we really had a great time binge watching these series.  Unlike the theatrical movie releases, TV really created some serious well worth watching series. Some of these shows were international some were from smaller known creators.

The Big Sick

With this episode Alicia wanted me to take the time and watch a movie that I was avoiding based on the sappiness of this love story. But because of the Golden Globe nominations, this critically acclaimed movie based on the comedian's real life, was something we had to see in order to compare the nominees on the list or what actors or actresses should have been nominated.

Kumail is a Pakistani comic who meets an American graduate student named Emily at one of his stand-up shows. As their relationship blossoms, he soon becomes worried about what his traditional Muslim parents will think of her. When Emily suddenly comes down with an illness that leaves her in a coma, Kumail finds himself developing a bond with her deeply concerned mother and father

Dark (Netflix) subtitled

Alicia and I fall head first in this twisted but enjoyable supernatural time traveling TV series from Netflix.  This German saga tells the story of three different eras that effects four different family unbeknownst of their history and relationship to each other over the last 66 years.

When two children go missing in a small German town, its sinful past is exposed along with the double lives and fractured relationships that exist among four families as they search for the kids. The mystery-drama series introduces an intricate puzzle filled with twists that includes a web of curious characters, all of whom have a connection to the town's troubled history -- whether they know it or not. The story includes supernatural elements that tie back to the same town in 1986. "Dark" represents the first German original series produced for Netflix
