Black (Korean TV series) NETFLIX

This week i took a little more time than normal to watch a 18 episode Korean TV series called “Black”. A supernatural/serial killer drama that seemed very different for what I was use to with Korean TV series. A very good and creative series.

Black is the story of a grim reaper who is forced to track down his fugitive partner. In the process, he uncovers the truth about a series of cold case murders from 20 years ago. Investigating the murders complicates the reaper's primary role of guiding the deceased to their respective afterlife, especially after he falls in love with a mortal woman - which leads him to break supernatural rules against involvement in human affairs

Homecoming (Amazon Series)

Alicia and I take a quick binge trip with this very interesting Amazon series converted from the podcast series of the same name. Beautifully done directed by Sam Ismail better known for his work with the Mr. Robot series. This conspiracy military, rehab center, DOD suspense thriller takes you on a slow burn with corporate corruption, deception and pharmaceutical poisoning to a very real story line for profit

Heidi Bergman is a caseworker at Homecoming, a facility that helps soldiers transition back to civilian life. She leaves Homecoming to start a new life living with her mother and working as a small-town waitress. Years later, the Department of Defense questions why she left, which makes Heidi realize that there's a whole other story behind the one that she's been telling herself. Oscar winner Julia Roberts stars as Heidi in the first regular TV series role of her career. "Homecoming" is based a podcast of the same name.

Daredevil (Netflix) Season 3

So the Daredevil series. I wasn’t a big comic book fan of his but he always showed up with some of the characters I liked. So I was familiar with the origin and a bit with the Frank Miller series as well. I jump in on the 3rd season even though I seen them all as they released. I go over it on my own because of my Marvel obsession and how i follow almost anything  is released of Marvel Characters.  Here's my thoughts.

"Daredevil" follows Matt Murdock, attorney by day and vigilante by night. Blinded in an accident as a child, Murdock uses his heightened senses as Daredevil to fight crime on the streets of New York after the sun goes down. While Murdock's day job requires him to believe in the criminal justice system, his alter ego does not follow suit, leading him to take the law into his own hands to protect his Hell's Kitchen neighborhood and the surrounding communities

Ozark Season 2 (Netflix)

Alicia and I finally sit down to check out the second season of Ozark. The amazing way the first season was, we looked forward to seeing what the family has in store for the next characters. One hint, The ladies take over.

Created by Bill Dubuque ("The Accountant," "The Judge"), this drama series stars Jason Bateman as Marty Byrde, a financial planner who relocates his family from Chicago to a summer resort community in the Ozarks. With wife Wendy and their two kids in tow, Marty is on the move after a money-laundering scheme goes wrong, forcing him to pay off a substantial debt to a Mexican drug lord in order to keep his family safe. While the Byrdes' fate hangs in the balance, the dire circumstances force the fractured family to reconnect

Tom Clancy's - Jack Ryan (Amazon)

So for the last couple of days I sat down and watched three of 5 Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan movies. To prepare me for the Amazon series “Jack Ryan”. I wanted to have a perspective before I started watching the series in case there was an unconscience bias about the character and the stories.

jackryan2.jpg

Author Tom Clancy introduced the character of Jack Ryan in a series of books before Ryan headed to the big screen in several films. Now the former U.S. Marine is featured in an episodic series for the first time, with John Krasinski portraying Ryan in this Amazon original thriller that centers on Ryan as an up-and-coming CIA analyst. He is thrust into a dangerous field assignment for the first time and uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication. That launches him into the middle of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of terrorism that threatens destruction on a global scale

Iron Fist Season 2 (Netflix)

Alicia and I were very skeptical about this second season of Ironfist. So we were in no rush to sit down and watch it. Luckily it was only 10 episodes. So we checked it and out prior to this. This Marvel Netflix series was the worst of the bunch. Now we have something to really talk about. Thanks to new directors, writers and choreographers. We see a pretty good series.

The second season of the American web television series Iron Fist, which is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, follows Danny Rand / Iron Fist, a martial arts expert with the ability to call upon the power of the Iron Fist

Killing Eve (codename Villanelle)

We jumped into a brand new BBC America series called Killing Eve.  A cat and mouse investigator/Assassin series with a twist.  These two protagonist are women and the assassin is a psychopath.  This British triller is very unique and we discuss the nuances of the characters and series.

Eve's life as a spy is not adding up to what she had hoped it would be when she started. She is a bored, very smart, MI5 security officer who is very desk-bound. Villanelle is a very talented killer, mercurial in mood, who clings to the luxuries of her job. Eve and Villanelle go head to head in a fierce game of cat and mouse, each woman equally obsessed with the other as Eve is tasked with hunting down the psychopathic assassin. Sarah Barnett, BBCA president, says, " `Killing Eve' stands out in a sea of scripted stories as refreshingly entertaining and great fun.

Lemony Snicket's "A series of unfortunate events" season 2

I sit down today with my Grandson Marsalis after we both watched the 2nd season of Lemony Snicket "A series of unfortunate events" series on Netflix.  He was so excited by it , that I decided to bring this 9 year olds perspective of what he saw and go over the series 1 and 2 from a childs perspective.  I enjoyed this interaction, Hope you will too.

When a massive fire kills their parents, three children are delivered to the custody of cousin and stage actor Count Olaf, who is secretly plotting to steal their parents' vast fortune.

Stranger (Forest of Secrets) - Netflix (Korean tv series)

Prosecutor Hwang Si-mok who, as a child, lost the ability to feel empathy joins a police lieutenant to try to uncover the true identity of a serial killer. While looking into the case, he must fight rampant corruption within the police department that continuously undermines the investigation. Si-mok vows to find the perpetrator within two months, but rumors about his violent nature pop up and lead to questions about his ability to lead the case. He eventually sets out to meet the person who he believes is the real murderer.

Jessica Jones (Marvel) Netflix Season 1 and 2

Being a Marvel fan, and reading some of the later versions of the Marvel comics.  I ran into the Alias series that jumped into realistic problems people go through but just happen to be super powered individuals.   The Alias series centers on the emotionally battered Jessica Jones which Netflix saw some value to make it a series. Here is my take on season 1 and 2 and a little of the Defenders series.

This Netflix original chronicles the life of one of the darker Marvel characters, the mysterious Jessica Jones. When a tragedy puts an end to her short-lived career as a superhero, Jessica settles in New York City and opens her own detective agency, called Alias Investigations, which seems to be called into cases involving people who have special abilities. Suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome, Jessica wants to do good, but her primary interest isn't in saving the world, it's saving her apartment and getting through each day. Based on a graphic novel intended for adults, this is not a superhero story for the kids
