World (Music) Invasion of the 70's and 80's II

This session we go through many of the World artist that influenced the US with their interpretation of our music as well as their own sound that we began to embraced and add to our brand of music.  My brother and I talk about a lot of them and how even MTV had a big part with introducing their music and how we started listening and seeing music. 

Masters of the Nuyorican Soul Experience

This episode uncovers the creativity of a pair of remix djs that evolved into producers in their own right. Louie Vega and Kenny Gonzales were two of the clubs hottest house/dance djs out of NYC. Their Latin roots and creative style propelled them to a higher level in music production. As producers and eventually record label owners, these two became sort after by many artists. We talk about the history they created.  

Introducing Flying Lotus

This episode we talk about Flying Lotus (Steven Ellison).  A Hip Hop instrumentalist that has become a hip hop darling  because of his work.  I followed him from Pandora to purchasing his work currently.  With the new artist coming out copying his style and the people on his label.  I wanted to give this Producer/artist/DJ/ etc., the credit that he deserves.

 

Break Beats and Roller Rink Artists

This episode we look at some unknown one and done artist that shined during their time but faded away in to oblivion.  These artist was a must have for artist and filler and ensured they would keep dancers and B Boys on the floor until we could begin playing the main attractions.  We discuss our struggles and how we had to keep up with the changing trends of hip Hop music.

 

Bob James, Hip Hop's Musical Genius

This episode is all about one of the most influential artist to hip Hop.  Bob James is one of the most sampled artist in Hip Hop history.  He helped create a growing industry into a full fledge genre.  We talk about how he influenced us and some of the popular artist that he influenced with many of his albums.

HipHop into Mainstream

This introduction to Carr Waxx starts with the classic hits of Chic and the Sugar Hill Gang. The 70's and 80's were a time of street DJ's building their skills and competing against each other for crowd dominance.  Mark and Michael discuss their experience with these records and during that era.
